Whitford’s Finals Hopes Suffer Blow

WHITFORD’S finals hopes were dealt a blow on Saturday with the Warriors going down by 41 points to North Beach in A-grade amateur football at MacDonald Reserve.

A win would have put Whitford in the box seat to secure fifth place on the ladder heading into the last round, but the seven-times premiers North Beach proved too much, running out 12.19 (91) to 5.10 (40) winners.

Whitford sit sixth on 32 points, one game behind North Fremantle and Collegians. They will now need other results to fall their way in their quest to play finals football.

This Saturday, North Fremantle take on second-placed University at UWA Sports Park, while Collegians face ladder leaders Mt Lawley at Dalkeith Oval.

If Whitford defeat cellar dwellers Fremantle CBC, and either Collegians or North Fremantle lose, the Warriors’ percentage should be enough to see them move into the top five.

North Beach’s win continues to put pressure on the top two teams with reigning champs still just half a game behind University and one game behind Mt Lawley in top spot.

They play a resurgent Maddington at Harmony Fields and hope Collegians and North Fremantle can cause an upset so they can grab a top-two spot and home final.
