West Coast Cowan Appoint Larry Kickett as 2009 A Grade Coach

West Coast Cowan Amateur Football Club has revealed its A Grade Coaching Team for the 2009 season. In a coup for the club and community football, WA football legend Larry Kicket has been appointed as A grade coach, and will be assisted by former AFL star Dale Kickett along with 2008 coaches Alex Hamilton and Tristen Walker.

Larry played 227 games for East Perth then Claremont in a stellar WAFL career and is a life member at the Royals. Since the end of his playing career he has had extensive involvement with football at various levels. He has coached the Claremont and East Perth Colts before moving to Karratha as senior coach of the Karratha Falcons. On returning to Perth he was appointed head coach of the East Perth FootballAcademy, a program aimed at assisting young players reach their full potential as footballers and as people. He is also one of only a handful of West Australians to have achieved level 3 AFL coaching accreditation. Outside of football Larry is a community leader, holding positions including president of the Aboriginal Sports Foundation and board member of the Council for the Centenary of Federation.

Club Vice President Peter D’Alessandro said that “After such a successful recent history that has included back to back premierships and a competitive A Grade season in 2008, West Coast Cowan is thrilled to have been able to secure such an accomplished individual as its senior coach to help the club take another step forward in its development.? Larry’s extensive experience, football knowledge and history of youth development is a perfect fit with the direction that the West Coast Cowan is keen to continue in.” Larry is excited at the prospect of joining West Coast Cowan and bringing the club forward in 2009. At his first official meeting at the club last Saturday, Larry told senior players that “Each of us has a role to play both as individuals and as part of the team; and we need to work hard and support each other to achieve the success we will be aiming for this year.”

The club is looking forward to even further success in the rapidly approaching 2009 season, and with continuing support from its major sponsors GCS and EMCO the future appears bright. Pre season training commences on Thursday January 22 at 615pm at City Beach Oval, and new members are very welcome to join. For more information on the club please visit
