Tragic accident leads Panthers to fundraise for long serving member

On Saturday 9 June the Lynwood Ferndale Football Club will be donning specially designed guernsey’s to fundraise for long serving club member Kyle Stewart.

Kyle Stewart, best known around the club as ‘bags’ was competing in the True Grit Course in Donnybrook on 30 October 2017 when he fell from one of the obstacles, landing on his head. In an event which would change his life forever Kyle became a paraplegic.

Kyle played over 100 games of junior football at Lynwood Ferndale before representing the club 134 times in senior football. Kyle was also an integral part of the clubs last senior premiership in 2012.

For the past six months Kyle has spent time at the Spinal Rehabilitation Ward at Fiona Stanley Hospital and has recently returned to the family home.

The round nine clash against Swan Valley will see both Lynwood Ferndale sides wear a predominantly yellow guernsey with the initials KS on the front and Kyle’s nickname ‘bags’ across the back. The Lynwood Ferndale Football Club are aiming to raise as much as possible to help alleviate some of the financial pressure Kyle’s injuries have put on him and his family.

Former Lynwood Ferndale President Adam Shaw said “The Lynwood Ferndale Football Club is like every other club, we rally behind our members in their time of need and that’s why the club has organised a couple of fundraisers to help offset some of the enormous cost the family has incurred”

The club will have raffles throughout the day with the jumper auction after the league match.

The matches on Saturday 9 June will be played at Ferndale Park with the reserves kicking off at 12.35pm followed by the league at 2.30pm.

The club is also having a Bogan Bingo night on the 23rd June with all profits from both fundraisers going to Kyle.
