A Grade Women’s Elimination Final

The A Grade Women’s held the first round of the finals this past weekend, with Melville going up against Wembley.
Wembley got the match underway with the opening behind before following up with the 1st goal of the match. Melville soon responded with a behind of their own and then slotted their 1st goal to even things up. Wembley closed out the quarter with another behind to edge ahead at the 1st break.

The 2nd quarter proved to be a hard-fought battle, with both sides finding their intensity. Despite the strong effort from each team, neither were able to break through on the scoreboard, leaving the game tightly poised heading into halftime.
Melville came out of halftime with early pressure, opening the 3rd quarter with a quick behind before adding 2 more in succession, the 3rd coming after the ball was accidentally carried through by the opposition. Wembley managed to steady with a behind of their own, but Melville replied with yet another, edging further ahead.

The final quarter began in a stalemate, with neither side able to make an impact on the scoreboard. Holding a slim 2-point advantage, Melville focused on shutting Wembley down, while Wembley pushed hard in search of a late breakthrough. With just 3 minutes left, Wembley secured a 4th behind, but it wasn’t enough. Melville held firm to secure a thrilling 1-point victory.
After such a tense and close battle, Melville sees themselves advance to round 2 of the finals, while Wembley is knocked out.

B Grade Women’s Elimination Final

Scarborough faced off against Rossmoyne in the first round of the B Grade Women’s Finals; both teams will be desperate for the win that will mean being one step closer to the grand final.
Scarborough got off to a quick start, opening with a behind before slotting the 1st goal of the match. Rossmoyne responded late in the 1st quarter with a behind, narrowing the margin before the break.

The second quarter began much like the 1st, with Scarborough again striking early with a behind. Rossmoyne answered with their 1st goal of the game, but Scarborough edged back in front with another behind. At halftime, Scarborough held a narrow 2-point lead heading into the 2nd half.
After a quiet start to the 3rd quarter, Scarborough found their spark in the final 8 minutes, slotting their 2nd goal of the game. They quickly followed up with a behind before finishing the quarter strongly with another goal. Rossmoyne, meanwhile, struggled to find their rhythm and weren’t able to add to their score.

Scarborough carried that momentum into the final quarter, opening with a behind before slotting their 4th goal. They continued to press, adding a 5th goal and another behind before piling on a 6th goal soon after. Finishing the quarter with another behind, Scarborough capped off a dominant performance to claim a 36-point victory.
Rossmoyne were unable to break through in the second half, the loss sees them knocked out of the finals, while Scarborough go on to play in the semi-finals.

A Grade Men’s

Kingsway fought North Beach in round 17 of the Men’s A Grade, with only 2 rounds left, both teams will be fighting hard.
Kingsway opened the 1st quarter with the game’s first behind, but North Beach quickly responded with 1 of their own before slotting through the opening goal of the match. Kingsway answered back strongly, kicking a goal and following it up with another just 6 minutes later. North Beach kept themselves in the contest with a 2nd behind and soon added their 2nd goal of the term. Just before the siren, Kingsway managed a final behind to even things up, with the scores locked at 14-14 heading into the 2nd quarter.

North Beach wasted no time in the 2nd quarter, opening with a quick goal. Kingsway responded with a behind before steadying to slot their 3rd goal of the match. North Beach then pressed hard, piling on 3 consecutive behinds before breaking through with their 4th goal of the day. They added another behind soon after, but Kingsway had the final say of the half, kicking their 4th goal to keep the match tense heading into the main break.
Kingsway opened the 3rd quarter with an early goal, but North Beach quickly wrestled back momentum with 3 goals in succession. Kingsway pushed hard, registering 3 consecutive behinds before slotting 2 goals in just 2 minutes. North Beach closed out the quarter with a late goal to once again lock the game up, this time at 48-48 heading into the final quarter.

The intensity was carried into the final quarter, with North Beach striking 1st with a goal. Kingsway immediately hit back with one of their own to keep things level. North Beach surged ahead with a behind, but Kingsway answered by slotting their 9th goal. Refusing to back down, North Beach added another behind before kicking their 9th goal to reclaim the lead. They sealed the match with a final behind, holding on for an intense 3-point victory.
Despite the loss, Kingsway still sit firming at the top of the ladder, while North Beach sit 3rd. Both teams will make strong contenders for the finals.
