PFL Welcomes New Board Members & Farewells Long-Serving Leaders at 2025 AGM

The Perth Football League’s 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) saw clubs come together at the Claremont Football Club for an evening of important league updates, leadership transitions, and the presentation of The Real Stakes – the significant initiative in partnership with the VAFA and Adelaide Footy League.

New Leadership Elected

The AGM included the election of three new board members, with Kye Cherian, Danielle Santoro, and Clay Thomas securing positions. Their appointments mark a fresh chapter for the board, bringing new perspectives and expertise to continue the league’s strong trajectory of growth and community engagement.

Meanwhile, the AGM also saw the departure of three respected board members. Sam Birmingham, League President, stepped down after nine years of dedicated service, having played a pivotal role in overseeing significant structural and strategic changes within the league. His tenure saw a period of transformation, from commercial growth to increased club development and a sharpened focus on governance. Under his leadership, the league successfully introduced initiatives such as enhanced club engagement programs, strategic partnerships, and responsible investments that have strengthened the competition’s future.

Rob Steele also concluded his tenure on the board, leaving behind a legacy of strong leadership and commitment. His contributions to the governance and operational strength of the league will be remembered as integral to its ongoing success.

The election also saw Rafic Aoun, who renominated for a position on the board, unsuccessful in retaining his role.

A Night of Reflection and Progress

Following formal proceedings, the AGM seamlessly transitioned into the launch of The Real Stakes, a groundbreaking gambling harm reduction program designed to educate and support players, clubs, and the broader football community. This initiative reinforces the Perth Football League’s commitment to player welfare and supporting the community as a whole.

Andrew Dawe, CEO of the Perth Football League, highlighted the importance of this initiative, saying, “The Real Stakes is a critical step in ensuring our clubs and players are informed about the risks of gambling harm. This program will make a meaningful difference in the football community, and we are proud to lead this initiative alongside our partners.”

The evening concluded with club representatives mingling, sharing insights, and celebrating the collective achievements of the league. The AGM not only marked an important moment of leadership transition but also underscored the league’s continued focus on responsible growth, community engagement, and player wellbeing.

The Perth Football League thanks all departing board members for their service and welcomes the new additions as they step into their roles to guide the league into its next chapter.
