North Beach vs North Fremantle

This week’s Key Start Home Loans match of the week is the much anticipated A Grade clash between top of the ladder rivals, North Beach and North Fremantle.

The 2008 Grand Finalists will again lock horns on Saturday and with both sides sitting on 24 points, a win will be a handy break going into the second half of the season.

The day will be kicked off with the Phil Scott Colts battling it out at Gilbert Fraser Reserve with North Fremantle needing to snatch a win to keep in touch with the top 5 and North Beach looking to cement a spot at the top of the table.

The story’s much the same for the reserves with both sides still fighting for the finals. North Fremantle are chasing a win to get a game clear in the top 5 while North Beach are trying to keep in touch with ladder leaders, Trinity Aquinas.

With North Beach claiming the past 5 A Grade flags and their only losing attempt in nine seasons coming at the hands of North Fremantle in 2003, the two teams have been perhaps the most successful clubs of the decade, building one of amateur football’s strongest rivalries.

Since the 2003 Grand Final the clubs have battled out many close encounters including a 13 point win to North Beach in their season opener at Gilbert Fraser Reserve, and the epic 2008 Grand Final which saw North Beach again take the points after trailing at half time.

With North Fremantle going down to Collegians and North Beach suffering a shock loss at home to Stirling, the game is poised to see one club claim outright ladder leadership in the tightly contested A Grade competition.

A Grade North Fremantle coach Scott Misich knows about success and how important this match is, calling it “the biggest of the season so far” and acknowledging the task at hand away from home.
