Match of the Week – West Coast Cowan Vs Whitford

This weeks’ Key Start Home Loans Match of the Week is the Round 16 A Grade encounter between old rivals West Coast Cowan and Whitford at City Beach Oval this Saturday the 8th of August. The two foes will renew the rivalry which stretches back to the 2007 B Grade Grand Final with finals still very much alive for both clubs.

Looking to make their way into finals contention is West Coast Cowan, currently sitting on 24 points and needing to win at least two of the remaining games to be a chance at their first A Grade flag in over a decade. Whitford are on the other end of the finals race, sitting in fourth spot on 32 points needing one more win to virtually secure a finals birth after a late season run which has seen them come from the bottom of the ladder in round seven.

It’s just as tight in the reserves leading into what promises to be a memorable A Grade finals series – West Coast Cowan sitting inside the five by the barest of margins in front of Fremantle CBC and only one game behind fourth placed Whitford.

Long time West Coast Cowan committee member Peter D’Alessandro said the match was “a big game for the young West Coast side which has had some outstanding victories this season” and also making mention of last weeks’ humbling loss to reigning premiers North Beach.

As its’ West Coast Cowan’s last home game for the year the day will also double as the annual past players day which will add some extra spice and atmosphere to an already thrilling encounter. All past players from West Coast Cowan are invited down to City Beach Oval at 2:30pm to watch the match and of course, reminisce about the good old days.

This special day as well as all days throughout the year wouldn’t be able to happen without the support of clubs major sponsors, and the West Coast Cowan Amateur Football Club would like to thank GCS and EMCO who have supported the club in its quest for premiership glory.
