Match of the Week – Dianella Morley V Manning

The Keystart Home Loans match of the week for round five is the D Gold Match between Dianella Morley and the Manning Rippers at Light Street Reserve.

This north versus south of the river clash will be for the Community Cup, initiated last year as part of the Community Football Weekend celebrations between Manning and Dianella Morley.

Each time the two sides play each other during the season the Cup goes to the winning side on a combined points tally between the League and the Reserves sides.

Rippers’ spokesman Scott Greer said the Cup highlights the importance of everybody involved in senior community football.

“It’s done on both games to make the point that community football is about everybody who plays the game and volunteers at amateur clubs, not just the elite players at a club,” he said.

“The challenge for both clubs, no matter where there sides are on the ladder, is to get a competitive effort from every player at the club on the day.”

Coming into round five however, defending Community Cup holders Dianella Morley are sitting second on the league table with only one loss this season, at the hands of Ellenbrook by 55 points.

The Rippers are one game out of the top four with just one loss but having played one less game than the Raiders.

The reserves match this weekend will be a top two clash with home team Dianella Morley looking to ruin the undefeated record of top team Manning.

The Raiders are coming into this weekend winners after both sides had wins against Southern River, the reserves by 88 and the league team by 157 while both Rippers teams had a bye.

“The Rippers were overjoyed when Dianella were a late inclusion to our grade in 2009 because there is a strong desire within the club firstly to make this a traditional battle and secondly to bring the cup home to James Miller Oval,” Greer said.

Manning Rippers are proudly sponsored by the Mount Henry Tavern and Pusey Partners Accountants.

Dianella Morley’s major sponsors for 2009 are Glenn Williams and L. J. Hooker Real Estate, Girrawheen.
