Kingsley to Commemorate 20th Anniversary of Bali Bombings in Legends Game

The Kingsley Amateur Football Club will play a Legends Game on Friday, October 7 to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the club’s first flag and to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the Bali Bombings.

In 2002, Kingsley’s Reserves side was the first team to win a premiership in the club’s history. Club members headed off to Bali for a post season trip to celebrate only to be caught up in the bombing of the Sari Club.

The club lost seven of the twenty members in the bombing and have lost two more since. The survivors returned home and vowed to build a new clubroom in honour of the players who did not return.

The community got behind the project with donations of money and labour which resulted in the birth of the Kingsley Memorial Clubrooms that was donated to the City of Joondalup to use as a community facility.

The Legends Game sponsored by Dome Kingsley and the City of Joondalup will be held on the 7th of October at 6:30pm on Friday night before the twentieth anniversary of the bombing. It will involve two teams of former players showing that they still have it or, at least, think they still have it.

Half time will comprise a Kingsley Juniors exhibition game and the Fitzroy Gift. The Fitzroy Gift is a handicap race from one side of the oval to the other that has become a Kingsley tradition.

The Kingsley Football Club is eternally grateful to the community for the support shown in the wake of the Bali Bombings and welcomes anyone who would like to attend. The night will be as much about gathering to remember and reflect as it will be about football.
