Integrated Football Decider this Sunday

The inaugural Integrated Football season will draw to a close this Sunday the 28th August when Fremantle CBC take on Lynwood Ferndale at Morris Buzzacott Reserve.

Now in its third year, the Integrated Football program gives people with an intellectual disability aged 16 years and older the opportunity to play Australian Rules football. The concept grew after the success of several come and try days in 2009 to now encompass five clubs that participate in a fully structured competition.

General Manager of Senior Metropolitan Community Football Cameron Agnew said that the Integrated Football competition was an example of the WAAFL’s “footyplus” programs and engaged new markets into football.

The current model of Integrated Football was a sustainable one through club ownership, Mr. Agnew said.

“The fact that the program has grown from an idea into a viable competition within three years demonstrates the strong capabilities of WAAFL clubs and the opportunity to enter this market and provide AFL to these players.”

The clubs that participated in season 2011 are Lynwood Ferndale, Fremantle CBC, Warnbro, Kingsway and High Wycombe, with each side playing each other once throughout the year.

This Sunday will see the top two sides in Fremantle C.B.C and Lynwood Ferndale battle it out in the inaugural Grand Final at 1:45pm.

Prior to the Grand Final, Kingsway, Warnbro and High Wycombe will take to the field at 12:30pm in the curtain raiser.
