Gary Tait Memorial Day

All Past and present players and supporters will be heading to Charles Riley Reserve, North Beach on Saturday, May 8 for the annual Gary Tait Memorial Match.

The North Beach Football Club has created a rich and proud tradition, winning the last six A-grade premierships and Tait, tragically killed in Hong Kong in 1997 after being assaulted outside a nightclub, did so much to provide the platform upon which that success has been built.

Tait, a three-times premiership player, arrived at North Beach at a time when it was floundering, but the energy and enthusiasm of the former Claremont defender was infectious and the Tigers were re-born.

Tait is revered by all at the club and the match against University, which looms as the game of the round, is set aside each year to recognize his contribution.

North Beach are again under the reign of 1985 Norm Smith medallist and Essendon premiership player Bill Duckworth, who has also created a remarkable dynasty, guiding the A-grade team to nine flags in the past 11 years.

University are coached by former Claremont utility player Tom Matson and they are expected to have a strong influence over the competition this season.

In 2007 the North Beach Football struck a commemorative medal to continue to honour the former great for the best player a field.
