Football for People with an Intellectual Disability

The Western Australian Amateur Football League is providing an opportunity for people with an intellectual disability to live their dreams and play AFL football.

In partnership with the Department of Sport and Recreation, Recreation and Sport Network, and AUSRAPID, the WAAFL will conduct “Come and Try Days” over the next two weekends.

On Sunday 26th July, the Lynwood Ferndale Amateur Football Club will host the event from 1pm to 3pm at Ferndale Park, Metcalfe Road, Ferndale.

On Sunday 2nd August, the Kingsway Football and Sporting Club will conduct the event during the same time at Kingsway Reserve in Kingsway.

“The aim of these days is to provide an enjoyable experience and determine the level of interest in forming a structured competition for 2010,” said WAAFL Chief Executive Officer, Brendan Cullinan. “The WAAFL’s objective is to develop a similar model to those already operating successfully in Victoria and South Australia.”

The “Come and Try Days” are initially aimed at participants aged 16 years and over. Registrations so far range in age from 16 to 51 years of age and include 3 females.

Further information can be obtained by contacting the Community Football Office on 6380 1311.
