Fairest and Best Crowned at Medal Presentation Dinner

NORTH Fremantle Amateur Football Club’s Rhys D’Alton has won the WA Amateur Football League’s A Grade Fairest and Best and was awarded the C.J Jamieson Medal at the Medal Presentation Dinner last Monday night at Crown Perth.

Held in front of more than 830 guests, the Medal Presentation Dinner celebrates the WA Amateur Football League’s Fairest and Best players across its 25 grades.

President of the WA Amateur Football League John Davies opened proceedings by recognising the outstanding work of volunteers at community clubs.

“To Club Presidents, your committees, coaches, support staff, players and club sponsors, thank you for your commitment as your club strived for success both on and off the field” He said

“Your attendance this evening is recognition of the Amateur League and the respect it has earned within the WA community.”

“To all our invaluable volunteers, thank you once again for your involvement with the WA Amateur Football League.”

All grades from B to E3 were presented with their medals on the night, culminating in the C.J Jamieson Medal being awarded to Rhys D’Alton.

D’Alton, a member of the West Coast Eagles State Amateur under 23’s team that travelled to Victoria earlier this year, polled 3 votes in the final game of the season to clinch the award on 16 votes, three ahead of Jeremy Evans of Mt Lawley and Jake Carter of Collegians.

The victory is bitter-sweet for North Fremantle who face 2013 in B Grade after being relegated for finishing in the bottom two at the end of this season.

In the B Grade, Wembley’s Andrew Piccoli was awarded his second WA Amateur Football League Fairest and Best medal after also winning the 2007 C.J Jamieson Medal as the best player in the A Grade.

Other award winners on the night included Daniel Spry of Canning Vale – Who won the C3 Fairest and Best, his second in a row after also winning last years’ C4 award, and former Swan Districts player Brett Wolfenden who capped off a wonderful season at High Wycombe winning the C1 award.

Also presented on the night were the senior and colts Champion Club awards – given to the fairest and most successful clubs throughout the season.

The Champion Club award was won by Noranda, while Bassendean won the Champion Colts Club.

Fremantle CBC’s Joseph Pantano won the LA Tetley award as the best player in the 2012 West Coast Eagles State Amateur under 23’s program, while Bullcreek Leeming’s Justin Stirling capped off a wonderful year for the club by winning the Administrator of the Year award.
