Do or Die for Quinns Finals Chances

WITH only two games remaining of the C2 home and away season, Quinns District faces a do or die match against Gosnells to keep their finals hopes alive.

After sitting in seventh position on five wins and eight losses after 13 rounds, Quinns has gone on a remarkable three game winning streak to be only one win behind fifth placed Kenwick and a finals berth.

Highlighting their brilliant form was a nine-point victory away to second on the ladder Canning Vic Park South Perth last weekend, proving that at their best Quinns are capable of upsetting any team in the competition.

Their opponents, Gosnells, however, have been the form team of the competition for the entire year and could consolidate top spot on the ladder and a first up bye in the finals with a victory this weekend.

Gosnells joined the WA Amateur Football League in 2009 in the C Black division, making an immediate impact and winning the C Black Premiership in their inaugural year in the competition.

The following year proved tough for the former Sunday Football League club however, winning only three games for the season and being relegated back to C1 competition.

The next season Gosnells again failed to find the form that saw them claim the 2009 flag, recording only the one win for 2011 and again being relegated, this time to C2.

However, like all quality teams, Gosnells has rebounded strongly this season to sit top of the ladder with 13 wins and three losses with only two games to play.

If they defeat Quinns this weekend they will be all but certain to finish minor premiers and set themselves up for a finals campaign that could see them promoted back to C1 after only one year down.

If Gosnells wins, the only team with a mathematical possibility of stopping them will be Canning Vic Park South Perth, currently in second place on one less win than the ladder leaders and travelling to Swan Valley Sporting Complex this weekend.

CVPSP have been one of the form teams of C2 for the past two years after winning the D Grade premiership in 2010.

In 2011 they finished in third place, losing to the eventual Premiers Coolbinia West Perth in the Preliminary final, and will be looking to push deep into September again this season.

In another match likely to determine the fate of the top five, Lynwood Ferndale (third) host Kenwick (fifth), with the loser potentially facing severe consequences.

If Kenwick lose and Quinns upset Gosnells the two sides will be equal on points heading into the final round of the season, while a loss for Lynwood Ferndale could see them drop to fourth and miss out on the double chance come finals.

The final match of the round sees Cockburn Lakes hosting Manning at Anning Park and while Cockburn is guaranteed to be relegated and Manning guaranteed to be safe, both sides will want to finish the year on a high after disappointing seasons.

Bounce down for all matches is at 2:30pm, following Colts at 10:45am and Reserves at 12:35pm.
