Clubs commemorate the ANZAC’s

On Saturday 27 April the Perth Football League will recognise the sacrifices of men and women who served for our country.

Many of our clubs will mark this occasion in various ways across the day. Below are some examples of how our clubs are getting involved:

Gosnells
Presentation of Hansen/Barrett ANZAC Day Medal to Best Gosnells League player. Mrs Pat Websdale, wife of the late Private Hansen will toss the coin for the League game. Short service led by Gosnells RSL prior to League Game including Last Post and Ode to The Fallen. Afternoon tea for invited guests.

Bassendean
League players to wear specially designed ANZAC Guernsey’s. ANZAC memorial service between the reserves and league match. Guernsey auction and raffle with money going to Soldier On.

Ellenbrook
ANZAC service before the league match.

North Fremantle
In partnership with the Fremantle City Council, local RSSL, North Fremantle Primary School, North Fremantle Community, Visitors and NFAFC Players and supporters, conduct an annual local ANZAC Service at the Fallen Soldier Memorial on the corner of Stirling Highway and Harvest Road, North Fremantle. This is a traditional promise the Club made to its community, that their sons would never be forgotten. All are invited to join the Club in our annual ANZAC Game Round

Colts play a significant role at the Service, honouring those fallen soldiers. They are also the focus of the ANZAC Round, wearing a specially designed ANZAC jumper honouring the names and locations where men gave their lives for their country. It is always a great experience for them and part of their own development and commitment to our promise and significance of ANZAC Day. It is a part of their development as young men and players.

North Fremantle Football Club lost more players in the war than any other club in WA, along with numerous others debilitated by injuries and conditions. This is why we Remember Them; this why we maintain the promise; and this is why ANZAC Day is an important part of the Club Culture.

Warnbro Swans
Players will be wearing a dedicated Anzac round jumper and will be hosting a service in-between our Reserves and League game.

Currently our football club has a large number of defence personnel and we’re hosting this day as a way of showing our appreciation to them and honouring them and our past heroes.

North Beach
North Beach RSL President John Rolfe performing the ode, bugler David Cusworth playing the Revelle and WAAPA vocalist Beth Redwood singing the national anthem.

Kwinana
Kwinana RSL come down and do the last post before league game and have a few free drinks from the club and watch the game.
