Brentwood Booragoon to raise funds for mental health

On Saturday 19 May the Brentwood Booragoon Football Club will be hosting a charity match in support of The Black Dog Institute.

The Black Dog Institute aims to improve the lives of people affected by depression, bipolar disorder and suicide through research, education and training.

This is the first year the Brentwood Booragoon Football Club have held a charity event to raise funds for mental health issues. The club celebrates their 40th anniversary this year and given the significance of this occasion they wanted to give back to the community.

The date was chosen in conjunction with the WA Amateur Football League’s Men’s Health Round with the club aiming to raise awareness that the high rates of mental health and male suicide coinsides with men’s health issues.

The players will be wearing a specially designed guernsey which incorporates the club’s traditional colours of blue, red and white along with the colour black to represent the Black Dog Institute as well as their logo. The club commented that “Many designs were drafted and put to the playing group, in the end we feel this design best represents the club, the players and the charity”

The club will also be awarding best on ground medals ‘The Stackpole & Mark Siden Medals’ named after two life members.

The charity match will be played at Karoonda Park, Booragoon against Belmont Districts with the reserves at 12.35pm and league at 2.30pm.
