Amateur-Country rivalry continues

The West Coast Eagles Amateur Colts and Amateur State 23’s teams will battle it out against the Country Football League tonight at Fremantle Oval for bragging rights and the Neil Judge and Kevin Duffy shields.

The Western Australian Country Football League will be keen to rectify the loss from last year which happened in the most bizarre of circumstances. With the WAAFL leading by 5 points deep into the third, a power outage occurred and with the power not coming back on for an hour, the result stood with WAAFL taking home the Kevin Duffy Shield.

Coach Wayne Langbourne has opted for experience with two All Australian representatives (Simon Jones and Jarrad Heller) from last years’ tour of Ireland lining up for the Western Australian Amateur Football League.

For the colts, coach Andy Leinasars hopes to recapture the Neil Judge Shield after a valiant one point loss to the WACFL colts in last years’ match. The WAAFL colts put in a brave effort until the last passage of play but the bigger bodied WACFL Colts were able to pull to out a one point victory after the West Coast Eagles Amateur Colts led by five goals at the half time break.
