It will be the first time a women’s final has been held on an AFL ground.
The undefeated Coastal Titans, boasting the 2008 Fairest and Best winner Deanne Coates, Rookie-of-the-Year Nicole Bolton and Highest Goal Kicker Loren Fricker will take on a hard running Swan Districts at 11.30am this Sunday, August 17.
The match will be umpired by local legend Alison Moore, promising junior Amy Zapavigna and All Australian Jodi Maisey.
AFL Commissioner Samantha Mostyn will present the premiership medallions to the victorious players.?
For the first time in the WAWFL history the Best on Ground medal will be named after and presented by Louise Knitter.? Knitter won the League’s Fairest and Best Award five times in the last decade and is a celebrated State and All Australian player whose football career was halted due to a serious injury sustained last season.
The WA Football Commission and AFL’s Female Football Development Manager Jan Cooper said she was excited about this historic occasion.
“Being able to celebrate the 21st WAWFL grand final on Subiaco Oval is a wonderful occasion for women’s football and football in general,” Ms Cooper said.
“Fremantle Football Club allowed this to occur and, along with the tremendous support from the facilities staff at Subiaco, they need to be thanked for their ongoing support of female football development in this State.
“Let the game begin!”
The WAWFL’s division 2 grand final will be played from 2pm on Saturday, August 16 at Claremont Oval between Coastal Titans and competition debutantes, Southern River.
