Whitford Secures Finals Spot
24 Aug, 2011
WHITFORD have secured a spot in the 2011 A Grade WA Amateur Football League finals with a 62 point demolition of Fremantle C.B.C on the weekend.
Needing a win and other results to fall their way to secure a finals berth, Whitford gave themselves every chance of playing finals by holding C.B.C to five goals and kicking 15 themselves to win 15.12 (102) to 5.8 (38).
Led up forward by 20 year old Jared Butt (five goals), Michael Healey (three goals) and Benjamin Kuhl (two goals), the determined Whitford side controlled the play from the outset to bounce back strongly after last week’s disappointing loss to North Beach.
Luckily for the Warriors, University defeated North Fremantle to give Whitford fifth spot on the ladder and a shot at finals football.
They will play Collegians this Saturday the 27th August in a must win elimination final.
The match this Saturday will be the third time Whitford have faced Collegians this year, with Collegians winning both the previous encounters comfortably.
The winner of the elimination final will play the loser of North Beach’s match against University, setting up another potential show down against reigning Premiers and local rivals North Beach.
