West Coast Eagles State Amateur Team v VAFA – Final Score

The West Coast Eagles State Amateur Team fought hard against the Victorian Amateur Football Association but were defeated by 31 points on Saturday 6 July at Fremantle Oval.

In wet and muddy conditions, the side controlled the first quarter with multiple inside fifties before a thumping kick from Josh Hall (Gosnells) gave WA their first goal. The side leading by a goal at the first break.

The VAFA settled in the second quarter with a strong defensive structure that saw WA manage just the two behinds as the VAFA kicked two goals to lead at the main break.

Dino Ross (Bassendean) kick his second of the match in the third quarter while Braydn Furmark (Kingsway) took WA’s total to four goals as the sun finally came out.

It was a contested start to the final term with WA trailing by just six points. The backline worked hard as they rebounded the ball several times but Western Australia struggled to penetrate the forward line to make it count on the scoreboard.

It took eight and a half minutes for a goal with the VAFA’s Lachlan Byrne-Jones delivering to give the Victorian’s the momentum as they kicked another three goals to run out 8.14 (62) to 4.7 (31) winners.

Best on ground honours went to Victoria’s Josh Cowan while Ned Brennan (Fremantle CBC) was voted by the VAFA as WA’s best player with a strong performance in the backline.

The game is the final match for the 2019 state program with the side previously playing the WA Country Football League in June.
