West Coast Cowan 25th year anniversary
07 Aug, 2009
The West Coast Cowan Amateur Football Club is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary in fine style with an anniversary dinner to be held at the Sunmoon Bar and Resturant in Scarborough next Saturday the 15th of August. The dinner is a celebration of the Edith Cowan and West Coast Amateur Football Clubs who merged together in 2001, winning the coveted WAAFL Champion Club in their inaugural season.
Before the merger, the West Coast Amateur Football Club had already proven to be a champion club in their own right, launching the career’s of coaches such as Ken Judge (ex-Hawthorn Premiership Player, ex-Hawthorn and ex-West Coast Eagles Coach) and John Dimmer (West Perth Premiership coach 95 and 99, South Fremantle Premiership coach 2005) who also coached the West Coast Amateur Football Club to their first A Grade premiership in 1994.
It’s not just the coaches at West Coast Cowan who have gone on to the bigger stage with the club from City Beach also having spawned the career’s of Shane Beros (2003 Sandover Medalist), Corey Johnson (2002 Simpson Medalist), Kim Rigoll (West Perth Premiership Captain) and more recently, Sydney Swans Midfielder Ryan Brabazon.
Among the list of achievements for West Coast Cowan is 16 premierships, the seventh highest from a WAAFL club and includes the 2006 C Grade and 2007 B Grade flags which saw West Coast once again taking the field in the WAAFL’s premier A Grade division.
Tickets for the event cost $130 and include a three course meal and drinks with entertainment on the night being provided by a collection of speakers from the past and present as well as an auction sure to entice the minds of all football supporters.
