Warnbro Swans jump the Roos on ANZAC Day
30 Apr, 2009
The Warnbro Swans hosted Wanneroo last weekend in the ANZAC Day clash at the Warnbro Recreational Reserve. The occasion was marked with a minutes silence before the main game with the honour of the coin toss going to former Warnbro League Coach and Vietnam veteran Barry Siddons. A large and respectful crowd was on hand to celebrate the day, and enjoy the football.
And what a difference a week makes….stinging from last weeks defeat, the Warnbro Swans leaped out of the blocks early to seal a? welcome victory over highly fancied Wanneroo. The Swans were simply too good early slamming on 8 goals to 3 in a dominant first quarter which set up the win. The remainder of the game became a tense physical arm wrestle with both sides hard at the ball. Wanneroo never gave up and came at the home side hard in the third quarter, but the Swans were able to hold tough? and withstand the challenge recording an important 14 point win for the club.
Final scores were Warnbro 14:10 to Wanneroo 13:02
Best for Warnbro: Michael Semon, Jason Booth, Lance Smith and Phil Taylor
