WA Players to Tour Ireland
30 Jul, 2008
Five players from the West Coast Eagles U23 State Amateur Team have been selected as members of an Australian U /23 team to tour Ireland in October this year.
The team will play four International Rules games with one each in Cork, Galway and two in Dublin. The highlight of the tour will be the final game against an academy team consisting of the best youth players in Ireland.
There are 20 players touring from the four traditional amateur football states: West Australia, South Australia, Victoria and Tasmania.
“The five players were selected based on their performance for WA against Northern Tasmania in June this year and the good character displayed while on tour and with their WAAFL Club,” noted Community Football Chief Executive Officer, Brendan Cullinan. “These players now have a unique opportunity to represent their country and to develop life long friendships with players from the other states.”?
The squad leaves for Ireland on Monday 29th September.
The five WA players are:
Steven WOOD – University FC
Simon JONES – University FC
Brad WEDGWOOD – North Fremantle FC
Scott HORSBURGH – Wesley Curtin FC
Jarrad HELLER – Collegians FC
