University Stalwart Notches Up 300

University Football Club legend Andrew “Rev” Wheeler lined up this past Saturday in his 300th game for the club.
Suiting up for the A reserves side at UWA Sports Park, his celebrations were marred by a 62 point pounding at the hands of North Beach, a thorn in the side of a Uni team on the cusp of a top five spot.
Wheeler first came down to the club 22 years ago when former player Andrew Parker asked him to attend an annual pre-season social event on the Thursday night leading into the first round.
“I went down, played on the Saturday and haven’t looked back,” Rev said.
He enjoys an incredible record of nine premierships from a total of 11 Grand Finals.
“You can’t choose one flag as a standout but a very important one was after we had been belted every week over a couple of years. A small group of us stuck together and that was a particularly satisfying win,” he said.
Wheeler says the most important factor that has kept him going has been the mateship at the club.
“The number of games has never been a consideration but the mates you make at the club are something you don’t lose,” he said.
University faces another tough task this week, taking on North Fremantle at Gil Fraser Oval; colts at 10.45, reserves at 12.35 and league at 2.30.
