The Force of Football

The Perth Football League (PFL) published a magazine inserted in the West Australian Newspaper on 10 April to commemorate their 100th year in 2021.

Within the magazine was a compilation of the most notable 100 people to participate in the Perth Football Leagues competition within that time.

Browsing the list reveals some players who have gone onto have some remarkable careers in the Media and Entertainment industry in Australia.

Curtin University Wesley player from the 1990’s Rohan Nichol became a global name when he starred in the StarWars Episode III, Revenge of the Sith Movie. Rohan (who now resides in Summer Bay) even had an action figure made of his character Captain Antilles.

Other ‘Notables’ in the Media and Entertainment industry included in this top 100 list were:

– Rick Ardon – Journalist, TV News Presenter (Nollamara, Teacher’s College Churchlands, West Coast Cowan)

– Robbie Burns – Sports Journalist (Collegians)

– Tim Gossage – Sports Journalist, TV News / Radio Presenter, MC (Wembley)

– Rohan Nichol – Actor (Stars Wars) (Curtin Uni Wesley)

– Johnny Ruffo – Singer, Dancer, Actor (Stirling)

– Nick Rynne – Sports Journalist / Editor (SNESA)

– Michael Thompson – Sports Journalist, TV News Presenter (Secondary Teacher’s College)

The list demonstrates the diversity of individuals who partake in amateur football each season and serves as a reminder that the person playing back pocket in the reserves team, could also be in the process of becoming one of Australia’s most recognisable entertainers.
