State Amateur Colts vs WA State 16s

The West Coast Eagles State Amateur Colts team have suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of the Western Australia State 16’s squad after leading at half time.

In a highly skilled encounter at Fremantle Oval, it was the WAAFL Colts who were able to break away early before the WA State 16’s fought back in the second half to clinch a 16.9 (105) to 13.13 (91) victory.

Despite the talent academy 16’s squad kicking the first two goals of the match in the first two minutes, the Amateurs were able to show maturity and steady to get the momentum and next two goals, taking an 18 point lead into the first break.

In a see-sawing affair the West Coast Eagles State Amateur Colts managed to keep the lead going into the main break, holding out a determined State 16’s team to lead by 4 points.

With the intensity lifting the WA State 16’s took the most of their opportunities in front of goal during the third quarter kicking 4 goals 1 while the WAAFL Colts inaccuracy cost them as they put through 1 goal 4.

The Amateur colts misses proved costly in the last, getting ample amount of opportunities despite many of them tiring after playing matches the previous day. In the end it was the WA State 16’s squad who took the points after a 5 goal to 4 last quarter, leaving WAAFL Colts coach Andy Leinasars disappointed but pleased with the efforts of his team.

“They played really well, just ran out of legs in the end” Leinasars said, adding the WA State 16’s “Played to a structure and stuck at it all day”.

Joel Robinson from Bullcreek Leeming was awarded WAAFL Colts best, while coach Leinasars was also quick to praise the efforts of several players including; Grayden Bartlett (Trinity Aquinas), Daniel Allsop (Coolbinia West Perth), Dean Cadwalder (Stirling) and Kain Johnson (Melville).
