Sportswoman and mother of nine makes Board history

The WA Amateur Football League (WAAFL) has announced the appointment of its first female board member, communication manager Deborah Pett.

WAAFL President John Davies said Ms Pett’s extensive experience in community sports as an administrator and participant would ensure her valuable contribution to the board and the future direction of the WAAFL.

“Ms Pett remains actively involved in a number of amateur sports including basketball, Little Athletics, cross country running and amateur football in both an administrative and coaching capacity,” Mr Davies said.

With nine children focussed on sporting activities, Ms Pett understands the commitment and dedication required to support and foster the development of community sport.

“The organisational skills needed to coordinate nine children across several different codes of sport over the past two decades has ensured Ms Pett has a good understanding and feel for sport at the grass roots level,” he said.

Ms Pett has been a major contributor to various community boards and recognises the challenges and demands that face volunteer administrators.

She has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to community sports and has indicated a strong passion to ensure the sustainable development of community football into the future in Western Australia.

In addition to Ms Pett’s personal credentials, as the Public Affairs Manager at the Department of Agriculture and Food, she will provide valuable professional expertise to support the Board’s initiatives.
