Pink Tiger Day Raises $45,000 for the McGrath Foundation

What started as the brainchild of club stalwart Mark Hayter over a decade ago, has gone on to become the largest grassroots level national contributor to the McGrath Foundation.

A record crowd of 400 people attended the 11th anniversary of Pink Tiger Day in Round 11, with $45,000 being raised on the day.

Over the past 11 years, the Curtin Uni Wesley Football Club have raised a total of $415,000 for the McGrath Foundation which is an incredible achievement by a local amateur club.

Fundraising comprises of selling corporate sponsorships, ticket sales and auctions with numerous items donated by local businesses.

The players from the club are also asked to contribute by the doubling of their weekly match fees.

The day saw guests be wined, dined and entertained by local live music acts while watching the club’s League side don the famous Pink Tiger Jumper in a win over Fremantle CBC by 25 points.

This year the integrated and women’s teams also got the chance to run out wearing the pink jumpers, with the integrated players getting the opportunity to play under lights in front a crowd of 400 people.

“It’s great for our club to be involved in a cause as worthy as the McGrath Foundation and we find so many people are more than happy to support such a cause when asked to chip in. The event has become the highlight of our calendar,” said Curtin Uni Wesley President Jesse Wilson.

Perth Football League Partnerships Manager Joe Georgiades said, “This is one of the great cases of a football club’s broader community coming together for a common cause and is a great example of our network at its finest.
