PFL to take on VAFA in double header at Steel Blue Oval

State footy returns in 2024 with the PFL taking on the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) in a double header for our Senior Men’s and Women’s sides on Sunday 7 July at Steel Blue Oval.

The women will kick-off the action at 12:15PM AWST, followed by the men at 2:30PM AWST. Entry is Free.

Both matches will be live streamed on Streamer.

After a 39-point comeback from the PFL Men’s side in Victoria last year, the VAFA overran them in extra time by 19 points in a 37-goal epic after a 20-year hiatus from senior state football.

2023 Toyota A Grade premiership coach Craig White will take charge of the men’s side for a second year in a row and will be looking for redemption on home soil this time round.

The women’s side put up an early fight in Victoria last year, but the VAFA showed their class and ran away in a comfortable 63-point win at Elsternwick Park.

2023 WAFLW premiership coach Steph Walding will be at the helm of the women’s side and will be hoping to turn last year’s result around after positive signs in the warm-up game against Country WA earlier this month.

23 players have been selected for the men’s side to face Victoria on Sunday which features eight clubs across the Toyota Men’s A and B Grades. The most prominently selected clubs include Curtin Uni Wesley with seven players, Kingsway with six players and Fremantle CBC with three players.

Rowan Brookes (Kingsway) will captain the side again with the support of reigning back-to-back A Grade Fairest & Best winner Chris Leonard (Curtin Uni Wesley) as vice-captain.

23 players have been selected for the women’s side to face Victoria on Sunday which features 14 clubs across the Toyota Women’s A, B, C1, C2 and C3 Grades. The most prominently selected clubs include Melville with five players and Baldivis, Curtin Uni Wesley, Kingsley, North Fremantle and University all with two players.

Stefanie Wust (University) will captain the side with the support of Ashley Sharp (Bassendean) as vice-captain.
