PFL Board Election Results

Sam Birmingham has been re-elected as President of the Perth Football League and will serve a third term, overseeing and further developing the League for another three years.

Birmingham described his re-election as an honour to have been endorsed by the members to continue serving clubs as the League’s President.

“I look forward to further developing the League and capitalising on all the opportunities which we have worked so hard to build the foundations for leading up to this point,” Birmingham said.

“Responding to the challenges of COVID will remain a major focus for our League in 2022, but we also have so much to look forward to in terms of the leveraging the commercial potential of our League and its incredible community reach, to grow the game and the pie for our clubs, and to support greater investments into club development and resources which make life easier for volunteers.”

Rob Steel was re-elected to the Board for a third term after six years of quality service where he brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to all areas of the organisation.

Steel spent five years as Kingsway Football Club President between 2013-2017 and continues to play the game he loves in AFL Masters.

Steel said he looked forward to continuing to build strong relationships with clubs and assisting with their growth and development.

Rafic Aoun was elected as a new member to the Board, replacing James Matkovich.

Aoun brings considerable football experience with him, having served as SNESA Football Club President for six years from 2015-2021.

Aoun expressed that his greatest achievement as President was the growth in community engagement which led to the club’s membership doubling over his time at the helm.

“I’d like to thank all clubs for their support, especially SNESA Football Club for their nomination.” Aoun said.

“I look forward to working with the PFL Board and its stakeholders to better our position in the wider community and better the game for all our members.”
