Mt Lawley, University to do Battle in A Grade Decider
13 Sep, 2011
THE A Grade WA Amateur Football League Grand Final between Mt Lawley and the University Football Club will take place 2:30pm this Saturday, the 17th September at Medibank Stadium, Leederville.
The two teams head into the Grand Final after finishing the home and away season first and second on the ladder, and both clubs now have their first opportunity to win an A Grade premiership since the 1990’s.
The Grand Final will be the first time in seven years that a side other than North Beach has won the A Grade Premiership after the reigning Premiers were knocked out by University in last Saturdays Preliminary Final.
Mt Lawley, led by 2003 Sandover Medalist Shane Beros, head into the match on a high after on-baller Clinton Gribble was awarded the C.J Jamieson Medal as the A Grade Fairest & Best at the Medal Presentation Dinner two weeks ago.
Both teams will observe a minutes silence before the match as a mark of respect for Bullcreek Leeming Captain Kyle Thomas who tragically passed away following a collision in the E1 Grand Final last Saturday.
General Manager of Senior Metropolitan Community Football said both teams earned their chance at Premiership glory.
“Both teamss have had an outstanding year, Mt Lawley finishing first and University just behind, it’s fitting that they play off for the ultimate prize,” He said
“We’re anticipating a fantastic crowd for what should be a great contest”
