Match of the Week – Mt Lawley vs Hamersley Carine

Round one of the 2008 Western Australian Amateur Football League pits two high flying Hawks against each other at Hamer Park, Mt Lawley.? Both teams have been spurred on by disappointment last season and have trained the house down in preparation for an all out assault on the B Grade competition.

Mt Lawley have kept the majority of their 2007 squad together, which effectively gives the team a head start with camaraderie and team balance already established.? The Hawks were very disappointed at bowing out of the finals race in week one last season and have used the theme of redemption as a motivating factor over the preseason.

The level of preseason commitment has been exceptional.? Whilst the majority of the squad has remained loyal a few welcome additions including Andrew Taylor from Claremont have arrived to bolster the stocks.? The Hawks are looking forward to the challenge of testing their mettle early in the season against Hamersley Carine, a team that is sure to be a B Grade benchmark having played A Grade last season.

Hamersley Carine will take on the ’08 season with an extra spring in their step with Andrew Smith as player coach at the helm.? A 150 game WAFL veteran, Andrew immediately gained the respect of the playing group with his ability to lead by example.

A strong preseason has enthusiasm high at Hamersley Carine with strong numbers at training consisting of both new and familiar faces.? Tim Hall is a welcome return after a stint with East Fremantle.

Hamersley Carine is confident of a successful year that will see them back in A Grade sooner rather than later.? A strong balance of success on and off the field is the key and the Hawks are looking forward to the year ahead.

A Sports Memorabilia Auction and Quiz Night will be conducted with part proceeds to go to not for profit depression awareness organizations The Black Dog institute and North Melbourne Premiership hero Wayne Schwass’ Sunrise Foundation will be held at Mt Lawley Hawks club rooms on Friday 23rd May from 7pm.? Tables of ten are available for $80 from Kate on 0401 626 270.?
