Match of the Week – Melville vs Mount Lawley
14 Aug, 2009
THE Key Start Home Loans Match of the Week for round 18 is the final round of the F Grade competition between Melville and Mt Lawley. The two sides, sitting in sixth and fifth respectively, will battle it out in Melville’s last home game for the year.
“The team is keen to finish the season on a winning note at home this week against another finals bound team.” President James Della-Bonna said, highlighting the Rams successful season but lamenting a draw against second placed Bullcreek Leeming last week which saw them just missing out on a finals spot.
Standing in their way is a powerhouse of the WAAFL, Mt Lawley, looking to enter another finals series in red hot form, joining their B Grade and Brett Jones Colts sides in premiership contention.
The curtain raiser is the final round of the inaugural Brett Jones Colts division and although they may be out of the finals race, Melville will be looking to finish on a high when they tackle last placed Whitford. Melville has been somewhat successful in the Brett Jones Colts all year, missing out on a finals birth by one spot after being firmly in the hunt late in the season.
Although their season may be over James Della-Bonna has credited the clubs effort this season: “Melville’s 3 senior teams and 2 colts teams have had mixed results in 2009, but has achieved the goal of retaining the club in B Grade for the 2010 season, which is a credit to the players, coaches and volunteers involved”
Despite the obvious disappointment of a season without finals, the President was upbeat about the progress of his developing squad: “The club has a young squad that has gained valuable experience playing against quality teams over the last few years, but has its sights set on playing finals football in 2010.”
The season may be over but the funs just starting, with the Melville Football Club’s Annual Windup and Presentation day on Saturday 19th September at Swan Yacht Club, East Fremantle. For tickets please contact Jarrod on 0424 339 697.”
The Melville Football Club’s on field results would not have been achievable without 2009 jumper sponsors Melville Mazda and Solace Myaree, and major sponsors Metropolis Fremantle, Wridgways, WA Limestone and Sportreat.
