Match of the Week – Kalamunda v Belmont Districts

The Keystart Home Loans Match of the Week is the C Grade clash between Kalamunda and Belmont. Kalamunda is pushing for a final spot whilst Belmont is looking to cap off a disappointing year with a couple of confidence building wins.

Kalamunda Cougars has a strong group of committed players across all three grades. The League side has struggled with consistency, a common side effect of a young squad but Kalamunda has a firm belief that the future of the club lies with an ably run Colts program and through that program they have built up a good foundation for success. The League team is confident that if they can win at least two more games in the home and away season that they will play finals footy for the first time in for years, the Reserves and Colts are already in finals positions.

Kalamunda, Kalamunda Junior and Mazenod have a mutually beneficial understanding that has been ongoing for several years that creates a successful pathway to Amateurs, the WAFL and in very special and talented cases the AFL. The Senior team owes any success to a good Colts program and Kalamunda is committed to ensuring future successes. Exciting young players to watch include Brett Baker, Jimmy Wright, Toby Tolomei, Tyrone Clarke and Liam Creedon, all of whom are under 22 years of age.

Off field Kalamunda has had a very good year, this is in no small part due to a committed Executive and many valuable volunteers such as the Tackle Bag BBQ crew, Team Managers and Social Club Committee. The club’s major fundraising event is the Sam Newman Sportsman’s night which will be held on the 9th August, please contact Dave Edwards on 0417958649 for tickets.

Kalamunda Cougars would like to thank all their sponsors, particularly Gold Jumper Sponsors McDowell Affleck, Premier Paving, Embers Fine foods, Kalamunda Optical, Skilled.

Belmont Districts has had a very disappointing 2008 campaign after their Premiership success in D Grade in 2007. The C Grade competition is tight and unfortunately Belmont has been decimated by injury that has severely affected their ability to be competitive. The main aim for Belmont is to continue putting in committed performances and finish the year on a high, winning games is all they can do to avoid relegation and hope that other games will fall their way. A winning end to the season will carry Belmont through the off season and into 2009 with some much needed confidence.

Belmont’s League Captain celebrated his 100th game last weekend, a fine achievement of which the club is very proud.

Belmont is holding a Quiz Night on Saturday night at the clubrooms, with proceeds going towards the club and in particular the lighting fund. Belmont has been successful in having new lighting installed at their home ground, a major achievement for the club but additional funds are still required for upkeep and the Quiz Night is sure to be a success, everyone is welcome, for tables or further information please contact Adam on 0410 746 215.
