Match of the Week – Carlisle v St Norberts
02 May, 2008
The Keystart Home Loans Match of the Week for Round 4 is D Grade Carlisle v St Norberts. Both teams are a part of a large group who have started the season with two wins and one loss but sit in the top three on percentage.
Carlisle had a comprehensive victory over Dianella Morley last week and is looking forward to using that as a springboard to build on last season’s Preliminary Final loss.? The team has some new faces and a 2-1 start is exactly what coach Dennis Fare was after, knowing that it will take some time for the team to gel.
Training numbers have been impressive and the Colts team is prospering, in no small part due to a wonderful partnership with the Vic Park Junior Football Club. The Carlisle Cougars want as many local blokes as possible playing footy and the numbers are proving that they are seeing some success with that goal.
Jeremy Evans and Alan Tyler have started the season off in style. Evans was awarded the Vice Captaincy in the off season and is relishing his new leadership role and Tyler kicked a well deserved bag last week complimenting the first class delivery from his midfield.
The St Norbert Football Club got off to a great start in the D Grade competition with two first up wins and they are eagerly anticipating the chance to get back on the winners list against their arch rivals Carlisle Football Club.
The club is looking to establish itself as a true challenger in the D Grade competition after a recent run of lean years.? The appointment of Chris Wheatcroft as senior coach has seen a remarkable turnaround in club morale and the boys are confident of an improved 2008 season.
“It’s been a solid pre-season this year and we’ve had plenty of numbers on the track,” Wheatcroft said. “The whole squad has shown an improved performance this season but we’ve still got a long way to go.”
Captain Christian Tufilli will return to the side this weekend, playing alongside the in-form Daniel Bull and St Norberts will be going into the match with only the win in mind.
Carlisle Football Club Life Members day will be Round 8 v Manning.? The Council has approved new lighting at Carlisle Reserve and the club will have dedicated fundraising activities throughout the year to assist with funding.
Carlisle Football Club invites any member of the public to come down and get behind the team with non-playing committee member positions and volunteers always welcome.? The club would like to thank major sponsors Carlisle Hotel, Carlisle Handy Hire and Laurie Keane Real Estate for their continued support.
After Saturday’s match, St Norberts will hold a Sportsman’s Night featuring former North Melbourne hard man Peter ‘Crackers’ Keenan at the club’s Wyong Oval headquarters at 7pm.? Entry is $20, a memorabilia auction and full bar facilities will be available in what is sure to be a great night for the footy club.
