Line-Up Locked In: PFL Women Ready for Country WA Showdown at Gosnells

The Perth Football League is excited to announce their Women’s line up ahead of this Friday’s clash with the Country Women at Gosnells Oval. After ending last year’s game on a tie, the team is excited to get amongst it and hopefully come away with a win.

Since the beginning the women’s competition in the Perth Football League has continued to grow and thrive, with 66 teams competing in the league this year, proving week after week that women can play the same game as the men with just as much of a passion for football.

PFL Women’s head coach Steph Walding is confident that they’ve got a really good team but know that it is going to be a really tight game following last year’s draw.

We asked her how she has evolved the game plan since last year’s close game to hopefully turn the tide this year,

“it is important to build on last year, we only have the girls for a couple games so it is important to keep the game plan simple but note what the country Girls brought last year and how we can bring more” she explained.

This short turn around poses many challenges for both teams however Walding believes the PFL Women’s team has a slight advantage.

“These girls play against each other every week so they do already know each other to some extent, we are lucky in that we have plenty more chance than the country for the girls to get to know each other” she pointed out.

When asked about the line-up Steph Walding saying she is particularly excited to see how a number of her players work together,

“There is a really strong group of forwards this year, Emily Pickett from Curtin, Kelsey Timms from Baldivis and Tayla Bresland from North Fremantle so I’m really excited to see how that mix plays”.

Some other players she said to look out for include Hope and Amber Ugle-Hayward from Curtin uni and Nikkita Cook from Coolbellup. With so many talented players from each side set to take the field this Friday night it is set to be an exciting game for all football fans.

Having announced their line up earlier this week the returning New Holland Country WA Women’s coach Rennie Meadmore says their team is ready for the challenge and eager to come away with a win.

“With a draw last year, we are even more motivated to get the win in Perth” she stated.

In the four Country vs PFL women’s clashes each team has come away with one win, Country claiming theirs in 2021 and PFL Women’s in 2022, followed by a draw in 2024, the PFL Women’s team is eager to finally tilt the scales in their favour.

With both teams eagerly fighting for the shield (and the pride that comes along with it) it is a game of footy that you do not want to miss.

Kick off for the Perth Football League Women’s and New Holland country Women’s clash is at 7.15pm Friday the 20th of June at Gosnells Oval, with the inaugural EGT Colts North vs South Clash playing from 5.30pm prior.

Entry costs one gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to A Stitch In Time.
