Life Without Barriers Integrated Competition Round Nine Rewind

The battle of the big V’s was upon us as Wembley battled Wanneroo at Pat Goodridge Reserve on a sunny Saturday morning.

From the start, it was clear that both sides really wanted this win as Wanneroo would get an early clearance and would find the first score of the game, but it was Wembley would would find the first goal to put them up by 5 points.

From the restart, The Roos defence done all they could, but Wembley would find another goal and this time it was one to be seen as a lucky bounce in the goal square saw the ball cross the goal line and give the Magpies a 2-goal lead.

Wanneroo would begin to find some momentum deep in the opening quarter but unfortunately the magpie defence was too strong as Wembley would again find the ball out of there back line. Jason Kappler standing strong for the Roos prevented Wembley from kicking away. A quarter time lead of 15 points for Wembley, saw the team and coaches up and about.

As the second quarter began it was Wembley who would start out strong but With a blink of the eye, Wanneroo had found themselves with the ball in the attacking 50 and with great teamwork, the Roos would find their first goal of the day and this would open up a goal scoring blitz for the Roos who would kick 4.1 to Wembley’s 2.4 in an entertaining 2nd quarter.

At the main break it would be Wembley who would hold a narrow 6-point lead over Wanneroo.

Both teams fresh from the half time oranges, it was back on as Wanneroo would find the first goal and the scores were level again. Both teams not letting the game get away from them in a tight third quarter as both teams would kick 2 goals, but it was the magpies that would extend the half time margin and lead at the final break by just 10 points.

Wembley’s defence was too strong for Wanneroo, as the magpies would lock the ball down in their forward 50 for much of the last quarter. Wembley would begin to pepper the sticks but only mustering 3 behind for the early stages of the last would keep Wanneroo in the game.

Wembley would kick 2.5 to 0.1 in the final quarter and take home the 4 points and their second win of the season over a gallant Wanneroo side.
