Kaide Wheelock from Quinns District wins 2024 NAIDOC Ball Design Competition

Congratulations to Kaide Wheelock from Quinns District, who won the PFL’s 2024 NAIDOC Ball Design Competition earlier this year.
Kaide is a proud Yamatji man and shared his inspiration behind the design with us:
“The story is that all the players, coaches, trainers, volunteers and supporters of the PFL may all be different in their own unique ways.
They all have their own individuality and come from different backgrounds. But we are the same in that we are here to play footy and be a part of the footy community here in Boorloo.
In doing so, we create strong bonds and connections with each other through this similarity and through our many differences.
I kept the PFL logo visible in the middle, to obviously represent Boorloo and the Perth Football League.
On the left side with green contour lines and various brown dots, represents inland of Boorloo and the Hills. The right side with the various blues represents the ocean and the coastline of Boorloo.
The footprints moving towards the middle represents the players in the PFL and shows that we all come from different places and backgrounds to come play footy here in Boorloo.
I used different colours for the footprints to represent everyone’s individuality. The brown paths and concentric circles that are around the PFL logo represent the footy communities we are a part of. As well as the strong bonds, relationships and connections we make in these communities.
The aboriginal flag reminds us that we are playing footy on Aboriginal land, especially Noongar land. Finally, the special dots in the middle of the PFL Logo represent all 73 clubs that are within the League.”
The Perth Football League and Quinns District Football Club are incredibly proud to have Kaide playing football with us and look forward to seeing Kaide’s art prosper.
An honourable mention goes to Waverley Jones from Melville and Demas Newberry from Yanchep who submitted stunning designs. It was great to have such a high level of art on show from across the PFL.
