Huge Milestone for Club Champion
04 Jun, 2010
A stalwart of the WA Amateur Football League will play his 300th game this weekend as Dale Rakich lines up for West Coast Cowan in their B Reserve clash against Swan Athletic at City Beach Oval.
Rakich started his football career in 1994 when he pulled the boots on for West Coast Cowan’s colts’ side, his ability was evident early on and he was quickly promoted to the league team where he has played the majority of his 299 games.
In a career spanning 16 years there have been many highlights and accolades: Rakich was runner up in the league best and fairest in 1998 and winner in 1999, he captained the C Grade from 2001-2004 while serving in a host of roles off the field including club Secretary, Treasurer and President and he is a recognised Life Member of the club.
Perhaps Rakich’s greatest achievements are the back to back premierships in 2006 and 2007 which lifted West Coast Cowan from C Grade to the top level of the WA Amateur Football League, the A Grade.
Former team mate Chris Busch paid tribute to Rakich saying it was an amazing feat.
“Playing 300 games is amazing and one that is very rarely seen especially in the amateur ranks” Busch said
“Dale continues to be an active part of the football club and is a true inspiration to all players at the club,”
“The club wishes David all the best and a huge congratulations on this fantastic milestone, he is a true champion and a great role model”
The match begins this Saturday, the 5th June at 12:30pm at City Beach Oval.
