Dianella Through to Grand Final
29 Aug, 2011
Dianella Morley has defeated first placed East Fremantle 6.12 (48) to 4.5 (29) to clinch a fifth straight grand final appearance in C3 Reserves Semi Final action on Saturday.
Less than a goal separated the sides early in the last quarter as East Fremantle tried hard to exploit the Raiders wasteful form in front of goal.
Brothers James and Matthew Allan were crucial to the visiting side kicking consecutive goals, whilst Darcy Ruddell sealed the game for Dianella after a yellow card and 50 metre penalty indiscretion led to a kick from the goal square.
East Fremantle struggled with discipline issues after losing a player to a red card infringement in the first quarter.
Dianella last took home the Cup in 2008 under player/coach Steven Haywood, a feat coach Brad Jones hopes to emulate after going down in last years grand final in his first year at the helm. A premiership would help soften the sting of a disappointing 2011 campaign by the Light Street based club who’s C3 and E3 sides failed to make the finals.
Swan Valley defeated SNESA by 8 points in the elimination final and will take on East Fremantle this Saturday for the right to play in the grand final.
