Croatia Welcomes West Coast Cowan Footballs
23 Jun, 2011
ZAGREB, Croatia is home to a new Australian Rules football team after West Coast Cowan and their Premiership full back Dean Kennedy donated footballs to help launch the fledging club.
The footballs were donated after West Coast Cowan President Isaak Drury heard about the club and the progress being made in Croatia’s capital to form the new club.
“It is always a pleasure to help other clubs unlock the camaraderie that this great game brings, regardless of location.” Dury said
“It is only a small gesture of support – and we will keep an eye on whether the next David Marinovich honed his skills on a West Coast Cowan football” He said.
Also helping to realize the dream of a football club in Croatia was Dean Kennedy, a West Coast Cowan Premiership Full Back.
“I never had any doubt that West Coast Cowan would offer their support to a young football club in Croatia (to help them) get on their feet, and they did so without hesitation” Kennedy said
The donating of footballs to help spread camaraderie of football is nothing new to West Coast Cowan, who already donate old footballs and old football boots to Indigenous communities in the north of Western Australia.
The inaugural meeting of the Zaprudjie Football Club was held on the 17th May, 2011, with their first matches scheduled to be played in July.
