Critical Matches Early in B Grade

ALTHOUGH still early in the season, round three of the WA Amateur Football League see’s crucial match ups taking place across B Grade.
With four sides currently sitting undefeated on eight points and four teams yet to win a game, early season wins could provide critical in earning a finals berth.
Unfortunately for two of those teams yet to win a game, Kalamunda and Kelmscott, they face the possibility of starting the season with three losses as they prepare to take on undefeated teams.
Kalamunda, who finished the 2011 B Grade home and away season in second place face a rampant Fremantle C.B.C who are coming off a dominating 148-point win over Kingsley.
C.B.C are currently sitting top of the ladder will be looking to maintain their early season form and make a quick return to A Grade after being relegated at the end of last season.
The other side relegated from A Grade at the end of 2011, Wesley Curtin, sit only percentage below C.B.C on the ladder but meet undefeated Scarborough who have taken all before them since coming up after winning the C1 Premiership last season.
The C1 premiers have defeated Wembley and Kelmscott so far this season and will be keen to prove themselves against one of the top sides this weekend.
Kelmscott, who lost the C1 Grand Final to Scarborough, take on Stirling, another undefeated team, who have already accounted for Kingsley and Kalamunda in the opening two rounds.
Kingsley and Willetton, the other two sides yet to win a game, face each other at Kingsley Park.
Perhaps the most crucial match of the round is between West Coast Cowan and Wembley, fifth and sixth place respectively, with both sides sitting on one win a piece and looking to maintain touch with the top four.
The sides close proximity to each other – on the ladder as well as geographically – means bragging rights as well as four points will be up for grabs.
Wembley President Tony Gooch said that the sides had a healthy respect for each other and expected another close game this Saturday.
“We managed to win our last match against West Coast by the narrowest of margins when our full back, Simon Weaver, kicked the winning goal in the dying seconds of the game.” He said
“Going by the results we both had against Willetton it would seem that both teams are fairly matched this year and it will hopefully be another great game of footy.”
All B Grade matches commence at 2:30pm following reserves at 12:35pm and Colts at 10:45am.
