COVID-19 Update – Season Postponed until 13 June

The Perth Football League is postponing the commencement of the 2020 season until Saturday 13th June 2020, which is the scheduled midway point of the current fixtured season.

The League has commenced re-fixturing and re-grading current team nominations for a nine round season. We endeavour to release new fixtures within two weeks. This will allow clubs to re-schedule events and functions.

Due to a proposed shortened season, the option to freeze any promotion/relegation at the completion of the season will be confirmed closer to the 13th June 2020.

Though most club activities are generally less than 500 people, due to the nature of shared public facilities across community football, training and other club-activities at the club are also suspended to the 31st May 2020. Clubs are encouraged to contact their local council (or relevant leasing body) to seek clarification on facility access, ground hire and charges for the remainder of the season.

These dates are subject to further advice from the AFL and WA Football Commission, and the containment of Covid-19 within the community.

As club affiliation fees significantly comprise local council ground hire and player insurances costs, the League is unable at this point to advise a re-structure of affiliation fees for a shortened season. However, the League is looking at several immediate financial options to support clubs through this period:

  • Clubs do not have to pay recently invoiced affiliation fees. These invoices will be voided. Clubs who have paid affiliation fees to the League will be reimbursed.
  • The League will delay invoicing clubs who have orders for playing jumper/short, support apparel and footballs.
  • Clubs with cashflow concerns should contact the League regarding an Interest-Free Loan.
