Back to Basso Clay Whittle Memorial Day
18 May, 2010
The Bassendean AFC would like to invite all life members, past players and their families back to the club for the Back to Basso/Clay Whittle Memorial Day this Saturday at Jubilee Reserve.
A marquee will be erected to watch Bassendean and Kalamunda go head to head in C Black League and Reserves from 12.30pm, with BBQ and refreshments available throughout the day.
After the league game, which finishes at approx 4.45pm, the clubrooms upstairs will be open for the presentation of the Clay Whittle memorial medallions with entertainment provided by DJ Trigger Finger till late.
This annual all day event is perfect opportunity for old players, club members and mates to catch up, reminisce and tell stories of how well or how not so well they played over the years.
Clay Whittle was a vital life member of the Bassendean Football Club who played 150 games throughout his career. He coached seniors for ten years, becoming the first senior coach in the club to win a Premiership in C grade in 1990, and also went on to play and coach in several grand finals. His final game was in the 1998 F Grade grand final which unfortunately the team lost.
As a club member for many years both in roles as Vice President and on the committee, Clay brought many new playing members to the club. His coaching and development ability of junior players was exceptional, and this showed through with his excellent football skills and winning record.
A hardworking, fun loving family man who loved and supported his family Kathy, Brant and Sharnie, he died tragically whilst working away in Queensland. He is sadly missed by all who knew him and his memory will live on through family and friends, and though the annual tribute to him by the Bassendean Football Club.
